It was a warm South African evening and the air was humid in the savannas. The hyenas were giggling in the distance or maybe close by – but we anyway continued sitting on the porch. The two wooden chairs made squeaking noises each time we reached out for our hands. Almost every night we have spent together since 2007 has felt different, but this night was nothing like we have ever experienced before. The sky was fully bright and it seemed like this night all the stars in the universe gathered just above us. ‘Weird’, he said, as a star just seemed to appear at the spot we were gazing. He squeezed my hand stronger than ever before and I felt butterflies in my belly. Yes, exactly those kinds of butterflies, the ones of love. Entrenched into observing our new star, we heard the hyenas again, this time they were on the porch. Quickly we rushed in and stood against the window still gazing at our new star. Little did we know that the star was our son who was conceived the day before. – Written for my best friend and best love.
