Many years ago my husband and I vacationed by car, having back then more time than money, and wanting to see more of this country. We tended to be late risers, doing our sightseeing during the middle of the day and ending up driving to our next destination by night. On this night we were driving west, through the prairie, with no cities or buildings anywhere in sight. My husband was driving and I was idly looking out the window and happened to glance upward. “Stop the car!”, I suddenly told him. He pulled over and we got out and looked up at the night sky. I am a city person and had been used to seeing only a few stars at night. I had not been prepared to see a sky so full of stars. As I gazed up at the stars I honestly felt as though I might fall upward into them, the view was so powerful. Never before or since have I been so completely surrounded by the awesome beauty of that sky.
