Stars, navigation. It’s the old way to navigate ships at sea, or ships of the desert.
In a sense, do we all navigate by the stars?
In my hometown, I have a sense of direction because the roads are linear, downtown is north, and the houses I grew up in faced directly north or south. But anywhere else, I have to look for the North Star to know for sure.
I do this almost without thinking. I’m thinking about it, in the sense of knowing I’m looking for north, but it’s instinctive and something I automatically do at night. I don’t even know why the cardinal directions matter, when I’m not literally trying to navigate, but I always check the North Star, by finding the Big Dipper and following the line made by the two stars at the end of the scoop.
This must have some grounding influence, or else why would I do it so habitually?
